In ancient Rome, students would go to school not only to learn about math and language, but also to learn about self-promotion. These classes were intended to make students comfortable about "boasting", an art that is seldom seen today. You never hear Caesar being modest about himself in his speeches. Modern-day society has an emphasis on 'not being too cocky', which has greatly deteriorated the great art of self-promotion. Today, we carry on the ancient Roman tradition by introducing ourselves to each other and giving the entire league a peek into our lives.[/font]
My name is Josh Barber and I am 18 years old. I am a sophomore (yes, a young sophomore) at Wake Forest University. I plan on majoring in Accounting and minoring in Philosophy and perhaps Latin or Math. As you can tell, I have a very wide range of interests. I would likely also minor in English, just because I love to read, if they didn't make me write all these damn essays. If someone asked me, I would tell them that I am truly a scholar at heart, and would probably stay in school for 20 years if they would let me. I would say my 'calling in life' is probably math related, which is why I want to be an accountant. I've always been sort of a numbers wizard and I think leagues like D5 have interested me so much because of the whole salary concept, along with my love for basketball.
As far as my passions outside of school, as mentioned earlier, I am a huge basketball guy. I've played on teams my entire life, mainly at the SF or PF position. I watch games, whether it be college or the NBA, any chance I get. I also spend a lot of time playing video games like NBA 2k10, which combined with this league, has led me to be able to easily name more than 12 players on any team off the top of my head. I am truly a student of the game, and I spend a lot of time thinking about basketball and I think I would probably make a pretty good coach some point in the future (but a better GM ). As far as my actual playing style in real life, I like to think of myself as a player with the skill set of Boris Diaw and the mind of Tim Duncan (gotta throw a Wake Forest reference in there).
Outside of basketball, I enjoy reading a lot of books. I am extremely interested in what I guess you would call 'classic' literature, meaning popular novels that are often studied. I think I am probably drawn to these books because I am an active member of my school's Quiz Bowl team, and there are always lots of literature questions. If I haven't told you enough already, I also play and watch almost every other sport, my favorites probably being baseball and soccer. As a last note, I am also quite a big fan of fishing.
Now its your turn
